Knightly in Australia

Online chess lessons for children in Australia

Knightly provides live online chess coaching for Australian children from complete beginners to school and tournament players. Lessons are scheduled around the child's local Australian time zone, and every new student starts with a free demo so the coach can assess their current level before recommending a starting stage.

Who these classes are for

  • Children aged 5 to 16, from complete beginners to experienced school players.
  • Families looking for structured online coaching without travelling to an academy.
  • Children who play at school or online and need a clearer improvement plan.
  • Junior players preparing for school competitions, club events or tournaments.

How the classes run

  • Live 45-minute 1:1 classes or 60-minute small group classes, never recordings.
  • A five-stage curriculum from board setup through to tournament preparation.
  • Puzzle homework between classes and coach-led review of your child's own games.
  • Progress checked against curriculum milestones, not attendance.

What is different about teaching families in Australia

Built for multiple Australian time zones

Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth do not always share the same clock. We record the family's location and schedule against the child's actual local time.

Works alongside school and club chess

If your child already attends a school chess club or local club, tell the coach what they are working on. Personal lessons can then focus on the gaps rather than repeating material they already know.

AUD regional pricing

Australia already has its own region in Knightly's pricing system. When an Australian price is published in the pricing database, this page displays it directly rather than converting a US-dollar rate.

Practical tournament preparation

For children entering competitions, coaching can include clock habits, calculation routines, opening positions they actually reach and review of their own tournament games. We do not guarantee ratings or results.

Local pricing

Prices below are per live class in AUD, set for the Australia market. We do not convert a dollar price at a floating exchange rate.

Personal 1:1 coaching

45 minutes, one coach, one child

$12$42per class

Small group class

60 minutes, level-matched group

$9$25per class

Launch pricing is a limited introductory rate. The demo class is free and no payment details are collected to book it. See pricing for every region.

Questions we get from parents in Australia

Which Australian time zones can you teach in?
We schedule across Australian time zones, including eastern, central and western Australia. Give us your city or time zone when booking and we will propose realistic local slots.
Does the lesson time change when daylight saving starts or ends?
We schedule by your child's local Australian time. Where daylight saving applies, we adjust the coaching side so the agreed local slot can remain consistent whenever possible.
Can you help a child who already plays chess at school?
Yes. The free demo checks what the child already understands, then the coach can skip familiar basics and focus on the next useful stage.
Are both private and group lessons available?
Yes. Personal coaching is a 45-minute live 1:1 class, and small-group classes are 60 minutes with level-matched students where suitable.

The five-stage curriculum

Every child, in every market, follows the same structured pathway. The demo class decides where they start.
