Online chess lessons for children in the UK

Chess has grown quickly in UK primary schools, and a lot of children now reach Year 4 or 5 knowing the moves but nothing about planning. That is the gap we fill. Lessons are live, taught in UK time, and your child starts with a free demo lesson and a straightforward account of where they are.

Who these classes are for

  • Children aged 5 to 16 at primary or secondary school.
  • Children in a school chess club or the English Primary Schools Chess Association pathway.
  • Beginners whose parents do not play and cannot teach it themselves.
  • Children preparing for junior congresses and rated events.

How the classes run

  • Live 45-minute 1:1 classes or 60-minute small group classes, never recordings.
  • A five-stage curriculum from board setup through to tournament preparation.
  • Puzzle homework between classes and coach-led review of your child's own games.
  • Progress checked against curriculum milestones, not attendance.

What is different about teaching families in the UK

Works with the school chess club

If your child attends a lunchtime or after-school club, tell us what it covers. Coaching is planned to extend it rather than repeat it.

Junior congress preparation

For children entering junior congresses, coaching covers the parts that decide results at that level: not blundering in time trouble, keeping a scoresheet, and recovering after a bad round.

Safeguarding-minded practice

Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson. We communicate with the parent rather than the child, and we do not ask children for personal information.

Local pricing

Prices below are per live class in GBP, set for the United Kingdom market. We do not convert a dollar price at a floating exchange rate.

Questions we get from parents in the UK

My child learned chess at school but has stopped improving. Is that normal?
Very. School clubs are excellent at getting children playing and rarely have time to teach planning, endgames or how to review a lost game. That is usually the first thing we work on.
Do lesson times change when the clocks change?
Your slot stays at the same UK local time. We adjust on our side so nothing moves for you.
Can you help with junior congresses and rated events?
Yes. Coaching from the intermediate stage covers tournament routine, clock management and preparation, plus analysis of your child's own congress games afterwards.
I do not play chess myself. Can I still support my child?
Yes, and most of our UK parents do not play. You will get a short summary of what was covered and what to practise; you never need to assess the chess yourself.

The five-stage curriculum

Every child, in every market, follows the same structured pathway. The demo class decides where they start.
