Tournament chess coaching for juniors
Tournament results are decided by things that never come up in a casual game: the clock, the scoresheet, and what a child does in round three after losing round two. Tournament coaching works on those alongside the chess.

Preparation is practical and specific to the events your child is actually entering.
- Clock management and avoiding time-trouble blunders.
- Keeping an accurate scoresheet without losing focus.
- A small, age-appropriate opening repertoire the child understands.
- Endgame technique that converts winning positions.
- Post-event analysis of every game, wins included.
Between rounds and after the event
We coach the routine: what to eat, when to stop analysing, and how to reset after a bad game. Most junior results improve here before they improve anywhere else.
What we do not promise
We do not guarantee ratings, titles or placings, and we would be cautious of anyone who does. We prepare the skills that produce results and give honest feedback about where your child stands.
Common questions
- At what level should tournament coaching start?
- Usually once a child has finished the intermediate stage and has played a few events. Earlier than that, general improvement matters more than preparation.
- Do you analyse games from events we enter ourselves?
- Yes, send the scoresheets or the PGN and the coach will work through them in the next class.
